DUI

Easton police were dispatched to Route 59 for a traffic stop initiated by Monroe police June 6 at about 5 p.m. The Monroe Police Department had received a couple of calls about an erratic driver traveling north on Route 25 and then Judd Road, according to reports. The Monroe officers were able to locate the car and observe the driver, who was unable to maintain his vehicle in his lane, and was crossing the double yellow line, police said.

Once Easton officers arrived on scene, they asked the driver to step out of the vehicle for the purpose of completing field sobriety tests. The man needed to hold onto the side of his car while walking to the rear of the vehicle to maintain his balance, police said. He smelled of alcoholic beverages, his eyes were glassy and bloodshoot, he slurred his words, and his movements were slow and deliberate, police said. He stated that he could not perform the tests and did not attempt to do so.

The 32-year-old driver was charged with driving under the influence and taken to the Easton Police Department for processing. He refused to submit to a breath test. He was released on $100 cash bond and ordered to appear at Bridgeport Superior Court on June 24.

The Easton Police Department is located at 700 Morehouse Road Easton, CT 06612, 203-268-4111, EastonCT.gov.
