Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, lawn signs have cropped up around the country. There are signs reminding us we’re all in this together, congratulating graduates and others missing traditional milestone celebrations and, of course, thanking those on the front lines in the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Easton Board of Selectman, prompted by suggestions from the public, purchased signs to put in the front yards of all Easton front line workers, to thank them. First Selectman Dave Bindelglass, along with other town hall employees, began placing the signs in the lawns of frontline responders in mid-May.
“It’s nice to be recognized and know people care,” said Easton EMS responder Josh Meszaros.
Lucy Crossman, Deputy Fire Marshal for the Easton Fire Department, doesn’t consider herself a first-up frontline worker. But she was still grateful when the sign appeared in her yard.
“I was very surprised and pleased when I walked out to the end of the driveway to get the newspaper and saw the sign,” she said. “No matter who you are or what you do, it’s always wonderful to be told you are appreciated.”
Frontline responders refer to any of a number of workers, such as healthcare workers, grocery store employees, and other essential service workers. For the Board of Selectman, frontline responders encompass those who work for Easton essential services — EMS, and the fire and police departments — regardless of where they live.
