Schools to Reopen with Hybrid Model on Sept. 8

Interim Superintendent Stephanie Pierson Ugol sent the following update concerning the start of the 2020-2021 school year for Easton and Redding public schools:

August 12, 2020

Dear ER9 Families:

We look forward to seeing you all as we reopen our schools in the weeks ahead.

Reopening Update:
At last night’s joint meeting of the Easton, Redding & Region 9 Boards of Education, two important decisions were announced:

1) The 2020-2021 school-year calendar was revised to move the first day of school for students to Tuesday, September 8th.  This decision was based on the fact that so many work days were lost during the recent widespread power outages.

2) From September 8th through and including October 2nd, the schools will follow a hybrid model of student participation.  For details, please see the presentation made to the Boards last evening, available at this link: Reopening of Schools Plan Update

There is one exception to the hybrid model described in the presentation which applies only to the first week back to school (Tuesday, September 8th through Friday, September 11th)
Cohort A
(last name begins with A-K) will attend school in person on Tuesday and Wednesday for full days and participate in distance learning on Thursday and Friday.
Cohort B (last name begins with L-Z) will participate in distance learning on Tuesday and Wednesday and will attend in person for full days on Thursday and Friday.

There might be a slight variation to this schedule for some students.  This information will be shared directly by the schools with those families.

Parent Survey:
In order for us to complete final preparations for the school year, including bus routing and classroom setup, we ask that parents complete yet another updated survey based on the updated plan to begin the  school year.  The survey will be open through Friday, August 14th at 9 pm and may be accessed and this link:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FDD9PBH

We appreciate your continued support, flexibility and feedback as we work together for a successful opening of schools.
