2020 presented the administrators, teachers, staff and students at Samuel Staples Elementary School, Helen Keller Middle School, and Joel Barlow High School with historically unprecedented challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although the Courier reported many important milestones, events and stories related to the schools — including the shifts to distance learning and the school budget process, as well as sports, academics, special programs, and graduation ceremonies — no event was more important to the future of education in Easton than the change in leadership at the Easton, Redding, and Region 9 school districts.

After serving for 13 years as an administrator for the ER9 schools, Dr. Thomas McMoran retired at the end of the 2019-20 school year, and in August Dr. Rydell Harrison became the new superintendent.
