Thomas Alan Cable, age 79 of Easton, Connecticut, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Mr. Cable was born in Hastings, Nebraska, and was the son of the late Marvin Cable and Evelyn (Sieckman) Cable.
After his service in the Navy, Tom moved to Connecticut and worked as an installer for Western Electric and AT&T for 32 years. His early retirement, at age 52, blessed him with time to delve into his passions. Tom approached everything with kindness and a sense of humor. He enjoyed cooking up a delicious meal, tinkering on anything from machinery to vintage cars, and gardening. He explored all the world had to offer on his many traveling ventures to six continents with his wife, Roberta. He always looked forward to the annual family vacations in Cape Cod and Florida.
Tom was a loving husband, and dedicated father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be remembered for his love and support. Whether it was camping with Andy’s Boy Scouts troop, pulling his daughter Marni in her treasured wagon, or coaching Marvin and John’s sports teams, his focus was always on family.
Tom was also devoted to community youth and organizations. He coached Girls Soccer and Boys Tennis at Joel Barlow High School, winning two state championships. Amongst many accolades, he was Connecticut Coach of the Year for Boys Tennis. Tom was a treasured member of his community and looked up to by many. He also served as a Park and Recreation Commissioner for the Town of Easton for over 20 years.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Roberta (Jacobs) Cable, devoted children, Andrew Cable and his wife, Kristen of Monroe, Marni Soss and her husband Jeffrey of Oxford, Marvin Cable and his wife Jana of Florence, Massachusetts, and John Paul Cable of Salem, Massachusetts. He leaves his brother William Cable and sister Peggy Graff, both of Texas, and also his adored grandchildren, Rachael, William, Emily, Monica, Chloe, Hannah, Eliza, Alexander Thomas, and his great-granddaughter, Maeve, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Marvin and Evelyn Cable, his brother Richard Cable and his granddaughter Bridget Grace Cable.
Services and celebration of life will take place on Friday, July 9 at 10:30 a.m. at The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road, Fairfield CT with interment following at B’nai Israel Cemetery, 472 Moose Hill Road, Monroe, CT. Family and friends may call at The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home on Thursday, July 8 from 4:30 pm – 8:00 pm.
