A blessed Great Lent, Passover, Ramadan and Easter to each and all celebrating!

As siblings in faith, it is a tender joy that our observances correspond this year. Differently, as Jews, Christians, and Muslims, we take part in spiritual observances that are meant to bring us closer to our God and to one another. We celebrate liberation and hope. We lament injustice. We remember the wounds of our world and our lives. We pray. We give to the poor. We fast, and according to our festivals, we share a meal together.

I am struck that, as such ways of love fill our churches, temples, mosques, homes, workplaces, shelters, and streets, we are blessed with holy imagination to glimpse the kind of world we wish to see out from this hurting one we inhabit. The prophet Micah promises, “they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war no more; but they shall all sit under their own vines and under their own fig trees, and no one shall make them afraid.” (Micah 4:3-4)

May you be unafraid this season, and in our observances may we dare to dream a world of justice, peace, and love.
