One of the most popular classes at the Easton Senior Center is the Floral Workshop. This monthly class allows members of the community to come to the center to celebrate the joy of nature by learning floral design.
“We don’t have enough room,” Senior Center Director Val Buckley said of the class. “Everyone attends.”
The class is loved not only by those who attend but by the volunteers who assist with the class as well.

Maryellen Dianna, who teaches the floral design class, said she finds it gratifying and fulfilling to work with at the center.
“I receive more than I give,” Dianna said. “They’re a pleasant group, pleasant to work with. I see a smile on their face when they leave, and I just enjoy being here. I really receive more.”
Regular attendee, Gale Haskell, said it’s her favorite class.
“It’s a wonderful expression, it’s an artistic outlet, it’s great, and we get to socialize. It’s wonderful,” she said. When asked about the social aspect of the class Haskell said, “Oh, it’s invaluable, especially during the pandemic, they were open most of the time, so it was really good for the seniors to socialize.”
Another regular attendee, Joann Veltri, said the class boosts her creative juices.
“I come here because we have wonderful volunteers who give their expert advice on creative projects like this, and it makes me feel that I can be creative as well,” Veltri said. “We need to exercise our minds, our bodies, and get our creative juices flowing.”

The Easton Senior Center is a beacon of social, physical, and spiritual light that the community members like Laurie Mellen treasure.
“There’s so much going on, it’s a wonderful center, there are movies, there’s a bridge, plenty of things to keep me busy. The seniors need a place, and if you notice, they’re not all Easton residents, they come from all over, which is a compliment to Val Buckley who runs the organization,” said Mellen.
