Sean Broderick Presents Award to First Selectman While Legislators Meet in Hartford
The Greater Bridgeport Medical Association honored several people at an awards ceremony May 18. Dr. David Bindelglass was given the “Dominick Sorge, MD, Distinguished Community Service Award.” An orthopedic surgeon at Orthopedic Specialty Group (OSG), Dr. Bindelglass is first selectman of Easton.
Samuel Staples Elementary School Student Senator Sean Broderick presented Dr. Bindelglass with a state citation from the Connecticut General Assembly. Initially, it was to be presented by state Rep. Hughes appointed Sean, school senator and third grade student, to serve as their surrogate. Sean was assisted by his mother, Dr. Whendi Cook Broderick.

Dr. Daniel Gottschall of St. Vincent’s Medical Center and Dr. Victor Morris, Bridgeport Hospital, were presented with the Exemplary Medical Leadership Awards. Nursing Excellence Awards were presented to Amber Penland, a registered nurse at Bridgeport Hospital and Princess Chandler-Dickson, a registered nurse at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.
In addition to these awards, five college scholarships were granted to high school seniors from Bassick, Bullard Havens, Central, Central Magnet and Harding High Schools. Each student plans to further their education to pursue a career in the healthcare field. Four students were presented with checks for $1,000 and one student was presented with a check for $5,000 from Robert Scinto of the RD Scinto Corporation.
