Editor’s note: The Easton Courier asked candidates to submit a profile/bio and statement discussing three top issues facing Easton and how the candidate will help address them. Beth Natt, Democratic candidate for Easton’s Board of Education, submitted the following response.
Dr. Beth Natt is a dedicated pediatrician and proud mother of four with deep roots in the Easton community. She cherishes the strong educational foundation that the town offers, having raised her children and witnessed them attend schools in Easton.
Nearly 20 years ago, she and her husband, Jeff Borofsky, returned to their hometown to ensure their children could be raised close to family support and attend an excellent school district. Beth is an alumna of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and recently completed a Masters of Business Administration from Yale in 2023. With a passion for children’s health and education, she is eager to engage with the schools that have played a significant role in shaping her family.
I’m excited to share a little bit about myself as I run for a seat on the Board of Education. I believe that our children’s education is not just a responsibility; it’s a community journey. So, let’s talk about what makes me tick and why I believe I’m the right candidate for this role.
First and foremost, I’m a long-time Easton resident and mom of four. My husband, Jeff Borofsky, and I, were both raised in Easton, and have watched our kids go through our school system. With one at college, and two on their way, it fills me with pride to see how well-prepared they’ve been for college and life. I’m also a pediatrician who has dedicated my career to caring for children, and recently obtained my MBA to better allow me for advocate for the children I care for in clinical practice. I have always felt that our schools are a beacon of excellence, and they’re a big part of what makes Easton the wonderful place it is. I’m a strong proponent of public education, and I believe that we can make a good thing even better.
You know — there’s always room to grow. It would be wonderful to expand opportunities for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in our curriculum. The world is changing rapidly, and we need to ensure that our students have the skills and knowledge to thrive in the 21st century. Equally important is the need to secure funding for our art programs. The arts are not just extracurricular; they’re essential to a well-rounded education. They encourage creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression. Let’s ensure our kids have access to these enriching experiences.
Supporting our schools is not just about supporting our children; It’s essential to recognize that a strong school district is not only an investment in our children’s future but also in our community’s overall well-being. A good school district is vital for maintaining property values, ensuring that our town remains an attractive and desirable place to live for families and individuals alike. To maintain a strong school district, we need to retain and attract strong leaders like Superintendent Dr. McKinnon. His leadership and his strategic plan are crucial to our district’s success. We’re lucky to have him, and we must do everything we can to retain and attract top-notch professionals like him, both as leaders and teachers. Their expertise is invaluable.
Last, know that I am committed to putting the educational needs of our children first. Our children’s learning should not be caught in the crossfire of political debates. I will work to ensure that our educational policies are based on what’s best for the students, free from political bias. Additionally, I am dedicated to creating a school environment that is inclusive, supportive, and comfortable for all our learners. Education should be an empowering and enriching experience for every child in our community, and I will work to support our district to make this a reality.
In a nutshell, I’m here to work alongside all of you for the benefit of our children, our educators, and our community. Please support my candidacy, and together, let’s make our schools even more exceptional. Your vote means the world to me.
Thank you for considering me for this role, and I look forward to making a positive difference in the future of Easton’s education.
