The Easton Police Department received a report of a serious motor vehicle accident this morning, Nov. 20, at about 9 o’clock on Route 59 in the area of Sherwood Drive.Â
The Easton Fire Department and Easton EMS were notified and responded. Upon arrival they found a 2019 Ford pickup truck which had struck a deer and a 2015 Honda Pilot off the roadway resting upright against a utility pole on the driver side. The female driver was extricated from the vehicle and was taken to Bridgeport Hospital by Easton EMS in serious condition.Â
The Fairfield Accident Reconstruction Team responded to assist in the investigation. The Westport Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team also aided in the investigation.Â
A preliminary investigation revealed that the pickup truck was traveling north on Rt. 59 when a large deer entered the roadway from the right. The pickup truck struck the deer causing it to go airborne. The deer then struck the SUV which was travelling southbound on Rt. 59. The deer struck the windshield and entered the passenger compartment of the SUV. It continued through the vehicle and was ejected out through the rear window. The deer came to rest on the southbound shoulder. The SUV continued to travel south and came to rest in a tall grassy area on the southbound shoulder.Â
The road was closed for several hours and has since been reopened. The matter is under investigation and further information will be released when it becomes available.Â
