The Easton Police Department has reported an increase in car break-ins, including the theft of one car. The police remind residents to lock your vehicle and take your keys with you. If you decide to warm your vehicle in the morning, make sure to lock it after starting it. If you witness any suspicious activity, report it to the police.
“Lock your vehicle and take your key fob,” said Police Chief Richard Doyle.

According to Doyle, the rise in car break-ins in Easton follows a statewide trend. Last week, six cars were broken into in Orange, which is 25 minutes from Easton. Every one of those cars had been left unlocked with the keys inside, he said.
According to police records, 12 motor vehicles were reported stolen in Easton during 2023. To date, one vehicle was stolen in 2024. Additionally in 2023, 12 vehicles were entered; in five of them something was stolen. There has been one reported break-in 2024, with nothing stolen.
Doyle also urges residents to hide their valuables by putting them in the trunk of your car. Valuables left in plain sight make your vehicle a much easier target for thieves, he said, especially when in open areas like parking lots.
