The ingenious ‘Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson — Apt 2B’ by Kate Hamill (‘Sense and Sensibility’) is a playgoer’s play currently playing at Playhouse on Park in West Hartford through Feb. 18. A very clever, funny and multi-layered dive into the relationship of these iconic sleuths who are reimagined as formidable modern women thrown together as mismatched roommates. The starring roles are perfectly played by Kirsten Peacock as Holmes and Kelly Letourneau as Watson.
The additional eight characters are hilariously played by Nick Nudler and Megan McDermott. It is a special treat witnessing the different role changes these two actors take on.
Then, just when you think the crime is solved, it morphs into another and yet another mystery full of twists and turns and subtle clues with references to the Bard, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, Tosca. But don’t despair if you don’t catch these hidden gems. It won’t take away from the play but here’s a hint to see how it all pulls together … Watch for the two characters playing chess off stage just as this fast-paced play begins.
Kudos to Director Kelly O’Donnell, Scenic Designer Lindsay G. Fuori and Amber Gebert-Goldsmith for the wonderful assortment of props, which spill out into the transformed lobby. Don’t miss it.
