The town’s Registrars of Voters are gearing up to run early in-person voting for the first time in Connecticut history.

Last year, Connecticut passed a law that allows residents to vote early and in person before Election Day after voters approved a state constitutional amendment. The law grants voters an additional 14 days of early voting for all general elections, four days for special elections and presidential preference primaries and seven days for all other primary elections.

The first round of early voting will be held March 26-28 and March 30 before the presidential preference primary on April 2. Then there will be seven days of early voting on Aug 5-11 before the primary election on Aug. 13 and 14 days of early voting from Oct. 21 to Nov. 3 before the general election on Nov. 5, according to the Secretary of the State’s office.

For Easton voters, early voting will take place in the community room of the Easton Public Library each day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to Easton Registrars of Voters Dori Wollen and David Smith.

“To be eligible for voting in any primary, you have to be a registered voter in the specific political party,” said Wollen. “There will be an in-person enrollment session for the presidential preference primary on March 15 between 12 and 2 p.m. at Town Hall.”

With the 25 more days Easton voters will have to cast their ballot in person comes the need for poll workers.

“The demands on bodies to be poll workers and moderators that we need is great and getting greater with early voting,” said Smith.

Early voting information, registration deadlines and options for voting, such as absentee voting,  can be found at www.eastonct.gov/registrars-of-voters alongside information for those interested in becoming poll workers or election moderators.
