Students at Samuel Staples Elementary school wore their pajamas to school earlier this month to raise money for children fighting cancer. The drive, organized by the school Senate, raised more than $1,300 for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford.

Known as “PJ Day for the Kids,” the fundraising initiative takes place throughout the state to show support for children battling cancer at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Wearing pajamas demonstrates solidarity with children who often have to wear pajamas for extended periods during their treatment.

Donations collected during the day go toward research and treatment for pediatric cancer patients.

According to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, the PJ Day For Kids event has raised more than $4 million since 2011 to support the center, with more than $680,000 raised in 2023.
