To the Editor:
The vote to approve funds for the new EMS building in Easton will be on February 11 at SSES from 12-8:00 p.m.
Unfortunately, some individuals have spread misinformation, suggesting the project was rushed or is too costly. Here are the facts:
- Your taxes and mill rate will not increase because of this project
- An addition to the firehouse was investigated and was found to be too expensive. Also, the firehouse is not owned by the town and the town would have to pay rent to the Volunteer Fire Company for the space the town built.
- The new building funding and project planning began over 20 years ago.
- The EMS building is not a typical municipal building. To serve the residents of Easton, the volunteers need to eat, sleep, shower and work from this facility.
- The footprint of the new building is the same as the existing building. The use of space has been designed for the service of today as well as the service of 25 years from now.
- Unlike building a home, the 500$/sq ft quoted by a resident includes a fully furnished building with a security system, radios, the IT needs for computer systems, an elevator which is required to be ADA compliant, and requires us to use union wage workers.

Vote YES for EMS. They have been there for you, now be there for them.
