Easton Pride is supporting LGBTQ+ voices in the community by holding a Pride Art contest in which members are invited to artistically share their vision of pride. The deadline for submissions is April 30.

The winner of the contest will have the opportunity to have their art featured on T-shirts and lawn signs throughout the town.

“To some, it may seem just like a rainbow art contest, a flag raising, a Christmas market with pride flags,” said Helen Moy, an Easton Pride event organizer. “But what we hear time and time again from attendees of these events is the appreciation that we are showing that Easton is a place where you are welcome, and you belong.”

In the past, Easton Pride has featured artwork created by Samuel Staples Elementary School students, making this the first event open to anyone in the community.

“Our primary reason for having the Pride gear is actually not fundraising but instead community visibility,” said Moy, “The CT Proud lawn signs we put up are to show our community members that they can feel safe in our town to be their authentic selves.”

As for this year’s event, “All ages are welcome to submit, or anyone in the local area,” said Moy. “The theme is kept relatively loose, as we want participants to be able to express what’s important to them.”

Easton Pride launched in 2020 with a small pride flag-raising at Town Hall, which will occur again this June 1, making it the sixth annual pride flag raising and celebration.

Upcoming events for Easton Pride include the flag raising ceremony and celebration on June 1, a concert on June 29 in the Concerts on the Hill series at Christ Church, and a Very Merry Joyous Pride holiday market at Sport Hill Farm in December.
