The Easton Senior Center offers a wide array of services not only to local seniors but also to residents of surrounding towns. The center operates out of a 1930s school building that has been renovated to provide flexible space for classes, meals and massage therapy.

State Rep. Tony Scott (R-112) and State Senator Tony Hwang (R-28) were invited by center Director Valerie Buckley to talk with her and see what they do at the center.
“The services offered by the Easton Senior Center really enrich the surrounding area,” said Scott. “They provide social opportunities, physical activity and so much more.”
“It is always a joy and privilege to visit with the seniors in our community,” said Hwang. “.They deserve our deepest respect, care, and commitment. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Val Buckley for her more than 40 years of compassionate leadership.
“She exemplifies what it means to serve with heart. Her tireless dedication has shaped a legacy of care, connection, and community that continues to uplift the lives of countless seniors,” Hwang said.
About 500 people use the center, including residents from Monroe and Trumbull, and as far away as Greenwich and Ansonia. They served 250 Thanksgiving meals this year as well.
“Almost all their operations are funded through donors and fundraisers,” said Scott. “Their most recent silent auction raised approximately $8,000.”
Among the services provided are bus transportation, internet access, large print books, salon services and a variety of classes. These range from cooking and crafts to medical screenings and informational talks. One upcoming class is meant to bridge the gap between generations. Seniors will be taught current slang used by younger generations.
A department located in the same building offers a youth program called Easton’s Here to Help. The coalition works to decrease substance misuse and mental health disorders among youth and families.
