Easton resident Cathy Alfandre, a career coach and résumé expert, has published a new book aimed at helping workers cope with abusive or undermining bosses: Breaking Free from a Malignant Manager: Strategies to Reclaim Your Confidence & Career.

Breaking Free from a Malignant Manager by Cathy Alfandre

Alfandre, who has more than 20 years of coaching experience, outlines seven types of destructive supervisors and uses real-life stories to illustrate their emotional and professional impact. She said she wrote the book to fill a gap in workplace literature.

“There are countless books on how to be a great manager, but few that focus on how to survive a terrible one,” said Alfandre, also a member of Easton’s Energy and Environmental Task Force.

She said that her goal is to give readers practical strategies to rebuild confidence, communicate effectively and navigate or exit harmful work environments.

The book includes tools for employees who must remain in difficult roles as well as those preparing to move on. Alfandre said it may also help family members, friends, therapists and coaches who support people struggling at work.

Alfandre holds an MBA and MILR from Cornell University and a bachelor’s degree from Yale University. Her coaching practice serves executives, leaders and professionals across industries.

The book, available in hardcover, paperback and eBook formats, is available through major booksellers and directly from the author.
