Easton officials announced that all public safety dispatching services officially transitioned to the Fairfield County Regional Dispatch Center on May 5, according to First Selectman Schuyler Sherwood.
Public safety leaders lobbied for the move to relocate Easton’s dispatch operations to the regional center at Sacred Heart University, which already serves Fairfield, Westport and New Canaan, to improve times, modernize aging communications equipment and provide around-the-clock staffing for police, fire and EMS calls. Residents approved the move at a December town-wide meeting.
Residents should continue to call 911 for emergencies. Non-emergency calls for service should now be directed to 203-268-4111, which connects directly to the regional dispatch center, officials said.
Routine police business can still be handled through the Easton Police Department at 203-268-3515 during regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. After-hours options are available and include direct connections to regional dispatch.
Town officials said a secure police lobby remains available for walk-up emergencies after hours and is monitored by the regional dispatch center. Emergency call boxes are also located outside the police and fire department buildings.
Additional security cameras at the police department are being monitored by regional dispatch, while school cameras continue to be monitored by the Easton Police Department during school hours, according to the announcement.
Easton’s current dispatch staff will continue supporting the transition at the regional center for approximately two more weeks.
After-hours access to Town Hall or the Easton Public Library must still be coordinated through their respective offices, officials said.
Questions about the transition can be directed to Sherwood at ssherwood@eastonct.gov.
