Easton police received a call on Sept. 17 at approximately 7 p.m. from a concerned citizen reporting an erratic driver. An officer located the vehicle in question, and initiated a motor vehicle stop after observing the driver veer right, onto a grassy area, and left, crossing the double yellow lines, then right, nearly striking a telephone pole, according to the report.
The officer could smell alcohol in the vehicle and on the driver, identified as Carlos S. Castro, 41, residing on Knoll Drive in Hamden, according to the report. After failing to perform a series of sobriety tests, Castro was charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive right. He was given a court date of Sept. 29 and released to a family member after posting a $100 cash bond.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
