State Rep. Anne Hughes (D-135 Easton, Weston, Redding) today announced she has been endorsed by both Planned Parenthood Votes! Connecticut and NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut, it was announced today.

“I’m dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom in Connecticut and I’m fiercely committed to defending these rights against any threats on the national level,” said Representative Anne Hughes. “The state legislature in Hartford must serve as a vital firewall against attempts to limit assaults on women’s rights and health care, and this issue became even more urgent for voters today as the rushed nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court may indeed jeopardize Roe vs. Wade and the Affordable Care Act.”

“We codified essential healthcare protections in HB5521 in 2019 because we anticipated this threat under Trump and the Supreme Court. This is why I serve on the Insurance and Real Estate Committee and why we must pass a Connecticut Plan for affordable healthcare access for everyone across the state, and why we live in a state considered ‘Strongly Protected Access’ by NARAL Pro-Choice,” Rep. Hughes said.

In announcing Rep. Hughes endorsement, Planned Parenthood Votes! Connecticut credited the Connecticut General Assembly with playing a major role in fending off restrictive laws that have passed in other states that limit women’s access to health care and services.

Rep. Hughes cited the passage of legislation she sponsored, the Paid Family Medical Leave Act, as well the establishment of the LGBTQ Health and Human Services Network as examples from the 2019 legislative session of new state policies that improve access to sexual and reproductive health and rights for all people.
