The Easton Public Library and Christ Church Easton are co-sponsoring an outdoor showing of the award-winning 2017 film, “Hidden Figures.” The story depicts the real-life drama of three African American women who were the brains behind the launch of Friendship 7, the NASA project to orbit earth.

Alongside Kevin Costner, Jim Parsons and Kirsten Dunst, the film stars Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monae, and Octavia Spencer as the mathematical geniuses who calculated the trajectory and thrust needed to get John Glenn into orbit and safely back to earth.

This film coincides with the Easton Library’s initiative for Diversity and Inclusion and Christ Church’s Racial Justice mission. “We’re so glad to partner with the Easton Public Library in our communal efforts to celebrate our diversity and combat racism,” said the Rev. Allyson “Ally” Paige Brundige. priest-in-charge of Christ Church.

“I am so happy to partner with Christ Church to present this relevant, timely, and important film,” Lynn Zaffino, library director, said. “I hope this will be the beginning of many collaborations between the library and the church.”

The date is Friday, July 30 at 8 p.m. at Christ Church, 59 Church Road, Easton Conn. The showing is free but limited to 50 viewers so please register at the Easton Library’s Website.

Viewers should bring a chair and/or blanket, a mask for indoor use of facilities, and bug spray. Refreshments will be available for purchase, though feel free to bring your own snacks, too! In the event of inclement weather, the film will be shown inside the church (masks will be required).

“We hope the town will sign up now to come enjoy this captivating and inspirational true story!” Rev. Ally said.
