As of noon today, more than 1,200 Eastonites turned out to cast ballots in one of the most spirited elections in the town’s history. Another roughly 350 cast absentee ballots. At this rate the turn out could reach 3,000 by the close of polls at 8 p.m.
Easton has a total of 5,672 registered voters, according to Jim Bromer, assistant registrar:1,670 Democrats, 1,599 Republicans, 2,319 Unaffiliated voters and 84 other.
In spite of sharp ideological differences, the mood was upbeat. Friends of different political persuasions mingled and chatted amiably.
