The Easton Exchange Club’s annual Memorial Day Mile road race will take place on May 30. The race, which was interrupted the last two years due to the pandemic, will kick off from the Easton Firehouse at 8:30 a.m., giving runners ample time to participate in the Easton Memorial Day parade, which is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m.
“We are thrilled to have the race back after being on the sidelines for the past two years due to COVID,” said Exchange Club Race Chairman Jeff Stiller. “We were on a very good run. The race grew from inception about 10 years ago to being a major part of the town’s Memorial Day festivities up until the pandemic interruption.
“We have consistently been attracting well over 100 racers and are very pleased with the acceptance of the race. This year we are anticipating 200 plus runners. With many state running clubs, especially the Run 169 Towns Society, looking to compete in races in all 169 towns of Connecticut, this unique one-mile race can be a key part of this. We invite runners from all over the state to come visit Easton,” Stiller said.
Net proceeds from the race are earmarked to benefit the Exchange Club Parenting Skills Center, which works to prevent child and spousal abuse. Since 1947, the Easton Exchange Club has been a longtime supporter of the prevention of child abuse and other local and national charities, many of which support youth initiatives.
Check-in for the event begins at 7:30 a.m. on site near the Easton Fire House at 1 Center Road. The run is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. Pre-registration is encouraged and can be done by visiting https://runsignup.com/Race/CT/Easton/MemorialDayEastonExchangeClubMile.
