To the Editor:
I strongly endorse Jon Stinson and Karen O’Brien for Region 9 Board of Education. They are champions for our students – Karen as the Secretary on the Region 9 Board and Jon as a member and former chair of the Easton Board of Education – who also give their time to raise funds for our schools and provide educational support beyond their Board responsibilities.
Karen was a founding member of the Easton Learning Foundation, which started in 2004. With her leadership and continued support as a Board Member, ELF has raised almost $1 million for our schools. The educator-written grants have funded projects that have had lasting improvements across all grade levels in our schools. Most recently, ELF helped fund improvements at Helen Keller Middle School to renovate the cafeteria to be a multi-purpose and innovative social and learning space.
Just like Karen, Jon is an advocate for our students. I have had the honor of serving with Jon on the Easton Board of Education. He is 100% committed to excellence for our students. As Board Chair (2020-2022), he led Easton schools through a challenging pandemic and the search for a new superintendent with integrity and grace. In addition to his six years on the Easton Board, Jon also volunteers his time to teach kids coding, which has included taking teams of middle and high school students to the CyberPatriot competition.
