The Board of Selectmen held its regular meeting on January 18.
The selectmen agreed to form a committee to study protections for board and commission members. Selectman Nick D’Addario will draft a proposed charge for the committee to be reviewed at the next meeting.
The board took several actions regarding boards and commissions. The selectmen voted to amend the charge for the Library Building Committee to increase the committee size to not more than nine members and to remove “2017” from the committee’s title. The additional members added to the Library Building Committee are Lynn Zaffino, library director, and Vida Peskay, alternate on the Library Board of Trustees. The Library Building Committee requested the change to meet requirements of a grant being pursued by the committee.
Members appointed to the Honorarium Review Committee are: Robert Adriani, Robert Klem, Josh Meszaros and Steve Waugh. The committee will review the honoraria paid to volunteer firefighters and EMS volunteers.
Richard Dina was also reappointed to another term as tree warden.
The board also approved a grant application request from the Cemetery Committee. The CT State Historic Preservation Survey and Planning Grant would be used to survey Den Cemetery, which dates back to the 19th century. The Cemetery Committee would use the grant to fund a ground penetrating radar study of the cemetery to assess the area for preservation. If awarded, the maximum grant amount is $5,000.
Public comment during the meeting included discussion about the Fire Commission membership, insurance coverage for town board and commission members and possible state legislation impacting Easton.
