Easton residents are invited to attend a meeting in Trumbull on Monday, June 24 to learn about the Regional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan and recommendations to prevent damage caused by severe weather and other natural hazards.

Easton, Monroe and Trumbull residents can provide comments during the meeting on the Connecticut Metropolitan Council of Government’s (MetroCOG) Regional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan. The plan is a requirement of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for certain types of disaster assistance.

Bridgeport, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford and Trumbull, the municipalities that MetroCOG represents, have all submitted draft activities and plans to make their communities safer and better prepared for emergencies.

The June 24 meeting will be held at the DPW Administration Building at 366 Church St. in Trumbull at 6 p.m. Residents will be able to view a regional meeting virtually between noon and 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26 via Zoom, https://bit.ly/metrocog-zoom.

MetroCOG has been conducting public meeting to prepare the regional plan before it submits it to federal emergency management agencies. The Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 requires cities and towns to have an approved hazard mitigation plan to be eligible to apply for and receive certain types of Federal Emergency Management Agency hazard mitigation funds.

If you can’t attend the June 24 meeting or the Zoom meeting, Easton’s draft plan is available for public review and comment through June 28. To view the plan, which includes a summary sheet and a comment survey, visit MetroCOG’s website.
