Drop Off at Library Starting July 8, Sorting Volunteers Welcome Through-Out the Summer

The Friends of the Easton Public Library are gearing up for their annual used book fair coming up at the end of September. From Monday July 8 through to mid-September, they will be accepting donations at the Easton Public Library at 691 Morehouse Road, Easton. In addition they will be welcoming volunteer help in sorting and merchandising.

As in past years, the Friends will accept donations of used books — soft cover, hard cover, children’s, adults’, fiction, non-fiction — as well as CDs and DVDs that are in good condition. Unfortunately, no textbooks, encyclopedias, VHS or cassette tapes will be accepted, nor books that are musty, mildewed, torn, written in or in a similarly compromised condition.

Donors can come to the front desk of the library and drop off their donations in the designated locations. If possible, bringing them in sturdy bags or boxes is appreciated. And a rough sorting by category: e.g, children’s, teen’s, adult fiction, biography, mystery, non-fiction, etc. — is helpful but not necessary.

Sorting volunteers welcome. The Friends also invite anyone who is interested in helping to sort donations to join them at the library over the summer and lend a hand. All are welcome; it can be a fun time to get to know new friends, compare notes on books and bookloving, and to stay cool in an air-conditioned setting. Work times, when an experienced sorter will be there to provide guidance to newcomers, will be Mondays from 3 to 5 p.m., Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon, and Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m.. Other sorting times, for experienced sorters who don’t need the guidance, are all regular library hours. A volunteer sign-in sheet and a list of sorting categories for reference will be available.

The Friends’ Used Book sale is always a great autumn event in Easton; folks are happy to come together as a community, support the library, and take advantage of some fabulous book bargains. Please be sure to save the dates: Friday, Sept. 27 for a kids-only shopping experience, and then Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28 and 29, for the full shopping experience open to all.
