To the Editor:

Easton’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is the backbone of our town’s safety. Yet, despite their life-saving work, they operate out of an aging, unsafe, and inadequate facility that no longer meets the demands of the important work they do. All agree that the building must be renovated as soon as possible.

After years of careful planning, community input, and financial diligence, Easton is ready to move forward with a new EMS building—without adding a single dollar to taxpayers. The funds have already been secured, ensuring this project can proceed responsibly and efficiently. To put it plainly, this building project will not increase your taxes. Anyone telling you otherwise is spreading misinformation. We’ve already saved the money and secured the funding—that’s why.

This initiative has been a multi-year effort involving numerous dedicated volunteers, town officials, and public safety professionals. Every step of the process has been conducted with full transparency, and the proposed renovation budget overwhelming passed by the Board of Finance is both fair and reasonable. Easton’s EMS plan has been thoughtfully developed to maximize available funding and efficiency. The net cost will be $1.8 million dollars. We have the funding secured to move forward. Now we need the town to approve spending it and vote YES on the upcoming 2/11 referendum.

The urgency of this project cannot be overstated. Our first responders deserve a functional, modern space that allows them to maintain and improve their already stellar response times. Delaying or opposing this investment in public safety only puts lives at risk.

Voting YES to the new EMS building is not just a vote for better facilities—it’s a vote for a safer, stronger Easton. Let’s give our EMS first responders the tools they need to continue saving lives. They always show up for us. Let’s show up for them when they need it.
