Connecticut Clean Communities will host its second annual Litter Cleanup at the Easton Reservoir on Saturday, April 26, from noon to 2 p.m.

Connecticut Clean Communities is a 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 2023 and is entirely volunteer-driven. Its mission is to preserve habitat and protect animals while fostering community pride by organizing litter cleanups in neighborhoods, woodlands and along the shoreline.

“With 40 volunteers collecting 1,300 pounds of trash last year, the Easton Reservoir cleanup was one of our most successful cleanups,” said Dawn Handschuh, a member of the CCC board. “This year, we want to break that record.”

About 80 percent of the town of Easton is watershed to the reservoirs, which provides water for much of Fairfield County, and Easton takes seriously its duty to protect it.

First Selectman David Bindelglass and State Rep. Anne Hughes will be among those taking part in the cleanup.

“Sometimes you have to get dirty to do this stuff that really needs to get done,” said Bindelglass.

Volunteers should meet at the Easton Public Library parking lot. If it is crowded, volunteers can park at the Town Hall. All cleanup tools will be provided.

“Even though a lot of people may walk around and they don’t see it, the people who are a part of Connecticut’s Clean Communities see all that trash and how it negatively impacts our environment and each other,” said CCC Board Chair Suzanne Cahill. “We are just a great group of people that gets together in our local communities and in a grassroots way to make a difference and help clean up our environment.”

Call 203-302-0494 to inquire about potential cancellation or rescheduling in the event of rain. Every attempt will be made to reschedule for the next day–Sunday–if needed. Any decision on cancellations or rescheduling will be made the day prior to the cleanup.
