The Back Yard Beekeepers Association (BYBA) in Connecticut will present guest speaker Julia Mahood on Tuesday, July 22 at Norfield Congregational Church 64 Norfield Road, Weston..Mahood is the president of the Georgia Beekeepers Association, a former Georgia Beekeeper of the Year and an authority on honey bee drones.

This meeting is in person and the speaker will be joining the club in person. There is not an option for participants to join virtually. Please join the gathering at 7 p.m. to allow time to socialize and chat with other club members. “It’s all about the drones!” Mahood said. “Honey bee drones are the Rodney Dangerfields of the bee world; they (often) get no respect.”

Mahood is a master craftsman beekeeper who has been keeping bees since 2004. She created the citizen science website MapMyDca.com to gather data on drone congregation areas. A graphic artist, she designed the Georgia “Save the honey bee” license plate. She is passionate about education and teaches beekeeping in Georgia prisons.
