Peter is an active Boy Scout with Easton Troop 66 and became an Eagle Scout on July 7 at the age of 12.

“I wanted to give back to Jesse Lee Church, which is the charter organization for our troop,” Peter said. “It also supports Cub Scout Pack 166 and Easton Girls Scout Troop 25. This year is the 100-year anniversary of our troop being active in Easton, so completing the project this year makes it extra special.”

Peter has participated in scouting in Easton since he was a tiger rank in Cub scouts in first grade. He never gave up in his scouting career, even during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Peter is a very hard-working and determined young man,” Catherine Correa, Peter’s and my mom, said. “When he sets his mind to something, he always tries his best. And as his parents, we’re proud of how he’s not afraid to face new challenges head-on.”

Peter completed his project in two phases: conservation work and painting the lines. The conservation component of the project prepared the work site and consisted of raking leaves, cutting back vegetation and replacing a missing board on the back fence at the rear of the parking area.

The line painting portion of the project included painting the speed bump to slow down traffic, updating the parking spaces, and installing entrance and exit signs at the back of the parking lot along with arrows to show the direction of traffic.

“Many stakeholders [parishioners, Scouts, daycare families, and more] utilize the church premises, and it’s important to keep it safe and beautiful for everyone to enjoy,” Peter said.

The pastor of Jesse Lee United Methodist Church, the Rev. Fern Blair Hart, was very accepting of Peter’s project goals and always supportive of Easton’s Scouts. She deserves a special thank you as well.
