The Town of Fairfield and neighboring communities will gather Friday to celebrate the life and legacy of First Selectman William A. “Bill” Gerber, who died July 15 at age 60.

A public Celebration of Life will take place at 10 a.m. at the Martire Family Arena on the West Campus of Sacred Heart University, 3135 Easton Turnpike in Fairfield. Doors open at 9 a.m. All area residents are welcome. Attendees are advised to follow parking signs and consider bringing a wrap, as temperatures inside the arena may be cool.
As previously reported in the Courier, Gerber passed away from complications following brain surgery. His tenure as Fairfield’s first selectman, which began in January 2024, was marked by a steadfast commitment to public service and ethical governance.
Condolence books will be available at the event and remain accessible at Old Town Hall, Independence Hall, the Fairfield Main Library, and the Bigelow Center for Senior Activities.
In lieu of flowers, the Gerber family asks that donations be made to Team Teddy–OHS, a pediatric cancer research initiative founded in memory of Bill and Jessica Gerber’s son, Teddy. Since its founding, Team Teddy has raised over $1.6 million for childhood cancer research.
Community members are encouraged to attend and share memories of Gerber’s impact on Fairfield.
