If you spotted a strange, swirling light in the sky Tuesday evening, it turns out it was actually rocket exhaust.

The spiral or vortex-shaped glow likely came from the launch of the European Space Agency’s Ariane 6 rocket from French Guiana in South America late Tuesday night, according to Connecticut meteorologists and other sources.

Reports say the light was seen from across the East Coast on election night.

Easton resident Shannon Calvert captured the rocket swirl over Samuel Staples Elementary School around 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

“I only had my iPhone with me, but it was good enough,” said Calvert.
