Three races in Easton are headed for recounts after unofficial results from Tuesday’s municipal election showed close margins separating candidates.

Dori Wollen, Easton’s Republican registrar of voters, said election officials have five business days to schedule the recounts. Results will not be certified until the recounts are completed.

State law requires a recount for general elections when the margin is less than 0.5% of the total votes cast for office but not more than 2,000 votes, or fewer than 20 votes.

In the race for first selectman, Republican Daniel Lent holds a narrow six-vote lead over Democrat Nicholas D’Addario, with a tally of 1,611 to 1,605, according to unofficial results.

The contest for the Board of Assessment Appeals is also close, with Republican Adam Bonoff ahead of Democrat Wiley Mullins by eight votes, 1,575 to 1,567.

In the race for a Region 9 Board of Education seat, Republican Todd Johnston leads Democrat Leny Wallen-Friedman by 11 votes, 1,546 to 1,535.

Dave Smith, Easton’s Democratic registrar of voters, said the recounts will likely be held on Tuesday.

The full unofficial elections results are available on the town website.
