All ER9 District schools were blanketed in pink today to raise money for the Norma F. Pfriem Foundation for Breast Cancer in Trumbull.

All five Parent Teacher Associations teamed up to participate in “Pink Out Day.” Helen Keller Middle School’s Assistant Principal Annie Mohr organized the event to honor her close friend Allison, a two-time breast cancer survivor and mother.

“Allison is a nurse. At the time of her first battle, she was working at Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven,” said Mohr in an email. “She told her oncologist that when she made it through her battle, she would dedicate her career to women battling breast cancer and use her experience to help them through it all.”

She has certainly fulfilled her promise. Allison now runs races to raise funds for breast cancer research and reaches out to community members who are also fighting the disease as part of her wide-ranging commitment to breast cancer support and outreach efforts. When Allison entered remission, she got a job offer from her oncologist to work at the Norma Pfriem Breast Center in Trumbull, said Mohr.

“I am so happy that all parent teacher organizations in our district have united to promote this event,” said Mohr.
