Easton Pride has teamed up with local groups to host Vision of Pride, a town-wide art project that invites artists of all ages to conceptualize what inclusivity and diversity look like.

ā€œWe want to bring the community together and embrace our diversity and support the LGBTQ community,ā€ said Sara Hunsucker with Easton Pride. ā€œArt is very unifying.ā€

The project is being sponsored in partnership with the Easton Park and Recreation Department, the Easton Public Library, the Easton Arts Center and LaLa Picasso.

During two workshop sessions on Saturday, May 18 from 2 to 3 p.m. and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Easton Arts Center, participating artists are invited to tap into their creativity to imagine what it means to have the freedom to be uniquely you, and what being affirmed, dignified, and equal looks like.

All ages and skill levels are welcome. Participating artists will get a canvas and acrylic paints.

Keri English-Giddes, the founder and director of the Easton Arts Center, will be on hand during the workshops. She said partnering with Easton Pride demonstrates the center’s commitment to inclusivity and provides a platform for diverse voices and experiences within the community.

“It’s a wonderful way to promote acceptance, understanding, and appreciation of LGBTQ+ culture through art and creativity,” she said.

Hunsucker received a $3,000 state Artists Respond grant through the Connecticut Office of the Arts to run the workshops. Artist Respond grants are awarded to Connecticut artists for community-based and artist–led projects that use the arts to inspire, empower, educate, and transform state communities.

The Easton Arts Council will curate the artwork, which will be exhibited at the Easton Public Library from May 27 through June 29. An opening reception will be held on Saturday June 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the library.
