The Police Department is reminding all registered alarm users to re-register by July 1. The alarm use fee is $20.
Registering and maintaining home alarm systems is both a personal and public safety issue, according to Chief Richard Doyle. Police must respond to alarms, some of which frequently malfunction and create a nuisance. Fines are levied after three false alarms.
“When officers are called for a false alarm, it’s more than a nuisance; they may be needed for an emergency somewhere else,” said Doyle. He emphasizes that registering and properly maintaining alarm systems helps protect the entire community.
